Steve Jobs, encouraging the conspiracy theory in all of us
When Steve Jobs disregards a market segment โ think mp3 players or cell phones โ that sometimes means Apple is about to jump in and take over. When asked about Amazon’s Kindle a few months ago, Jobs said:
“It doesn’t matter how good or bad the product is, the fact is that people don’t read anymore. Forty percent of the people in the U.S. read one book or less last year. The whole conception is flawed at the top because people don’t read anymore.”
Of course, that set off speculation that Apple was about to do just that, integrate a book reader into a series of portable internet devices.
It’s speculation like this that feeds the conspiracy theory in all of us. Being an Apple fan is like that โ except once every few product cycles the conspiracy actually plays out.
