Row 7 has been an OG for a long time. Long live their purple roma tomatoes, which I grow every year. Their snow peas and lettuce blends are also exceptional. They do lots of great work with local breeders to make sure their seeds are heirloom and true.
Potato-wise, years ago I learned about the $50 potato chips Bonilla a la Vista. I a sure they are excellent, but that seemed too much, so I investigated. What makes potato chips cost that much?
Part of it is that apparently, in the same way the French name-control wine, the Spanish name-control potatoes (who knew). Apparently, Bonilla sources theirs from Xinzo de Limia, a small town in southern Spain. The potatoes are renowned for their excellent balance of sweet and starch and their creamy texture that still holds together, making them excellent spuds for frying.
And it turns out we just call them Kennebecs.
They're easy to obtain and easy to grow here. Last year I harvested about 10 pounds, and, I have to say, they do make a damn good potato chip.
