While this isn't kottke.org's fault, the fact that the gift articles on NYT now require a login is infuriating. I don't want them to sell my information, and I can think of no other reason why they'd require it except for advertising purposes. I'll go back to yelling at clouds, but come on.

Interesting. The NYTimes recently changed their policy to subscribers to have limitless Gift Articles to give, rather than the 10 previously alloted per month.

I know it's bad-tempered of me, but every time I see a link which would require me to hand a shard of my soul to some plutocrat I lose the will to live a little. I mean, yes, there are solutions of course, and we all know what they are, but until those solutions are entirely automated by browsers they're not solutions.
I used to pay for NYT but stopped after discovering that they were the patron saint of the roach motel - I voted with my wallet and told them why, not that they cared. I'm all for supporting journalism but a gift link should be without friction. It's actually easier to use something like RemovePaywall without having to turn off Javascript or whatever the current bypass is than it is to use a gift link.
I was surprised to see that there were no images by David Bailey or Albert Watson but the list of photographers reads like a canon of the greatest to ever work in the medium.
