So glad you posted this Jason. I'd been sharing it among my friends again too. There's a brilliant recording of Alec Baldwin reading it at Symphony Space for Selected Shorts from WNYC way back when. I’ve been using the line, “You are a New Yorker when what was there before is more real and solid than what is here now.” about my time in San Franciso for a long time without knowing where I heard it. Thanks for sharing the Alec Baldwin reading. I’m sure I heard it on the radio cleaning up the kitchen late at night. The idea stuck with me and bears out more and more each day.
