A Shortlist of Potential Future Euro Banknote Designs
The European Central Bank is providing a sneak peek at the next design of the Euro banknotes. From a shortlist of 10 designs created by artists and designers from across the EU, one will be selected as the basis of how Euro banknotes from €5 to €200 will look in the future. Here are a few I pulled out from all of the designs:

For folks who are curious, I dug a little deeper into the contest rules and found that designers could submit ideas on one of two themes: European Culture or Birds and Rivers. The European Culture submissions had to feature the following people: Maria Callas, Beethoven, Marie Curie, Cervantes, da Vinci, and Bertha von Suttner.
Ludwig's feels like it's always existed.
The Canadian $10 bill went vertical (with the portrait of a trailblazing Black woman - Viola Desmond). Never did hear what prompted the 90° rotation from all our other bank notes.

There was an argument made a while ago in relation to how people remove notes from their wallet or retrieve tender from a cash machine/ATM. I think it was via this design study. The Swiss have used vertical notes since 1995 so I doubt it has much to do with the aspect ratio of a phone. A little over 50% of Europe uses cash anyway thanks to contactless EPOS.
