On the experience of the long haul flight. “The meal cart appears two hours in. You can hear it banging into passengers’ knees before you see it, and the sound causes the entire cabin to sit up slightly, like meerkats detecting motion on the savanna.”

Uncanny timing of this post. I’ve been sitting in DIA for 5 hours as my flight is repeatedly delayed. Not quite a long haul flight, assuming it isn’t canceled, but long enough for most of those shenanigans.

I'm afraid I'm pro socks.  No one sleeps or even attempts to sleep in shoes, nor should they be expected to.  In fact, recent flights in Economy Plus and Business have come with socks provided.  That said, I know the downsides in Economy (really wet lavatory floor; people in Economy for some reason can't keep the water in the sink. No judgment...maybe).

This essay doesn't even capture the full indignity of flying to Europe in Economy these days, where you get a "dinner" that's...whatever, chicken or pasta...on the flight, but then they wake you 2 hours before landing for "breakfast", which can be anything from a Twix bar literally thrown at you (really, see Eurowings which Lufthansa subs in with no warning) to a sad yogurt these days.  It also failed to capture the fact that they keep the lighting up well past when they should to try to sell duty free items that as far as I can see, no one buys.

The comments are amazing: "someone must watch Crazy Rich Asians or the plane can't fly"
