You know sometimes you learn some ancient lore and suddenly some contemporary pop culture thing snaps into place? Anyway, I found out how Isadora Duncan died and now I better understand the “no capes” thing in The Incredibles.

I've known how Isadora Duncan died since college: I went to a super tiny liberal arts school with a strong dance and theater program in the late 90s. As you might surmise, there weren't a lot of bro-dudes on campus, but the closest we got to overt jockish masculinity displays was the one guy who would sneak up behind someone wearing a long scarf, grab it and twist it tight, yelling "ISADORA DUNCAN! ISADORA DUNCAN!".
You left out the best quote:
“The accident gave rise to Gertrude Stein's remark that ‘affectations can be dangerous.’"
Brutal.
Holy crap I had no idea! That's awful.
This was instantly grim from the photo... but in watching the Incredibles clip I learned the origin of DJ Miss Milan's (recently notable for being Doechii's touring DJ) 'drop'/producer tag snippet "Milan darling, Milan!" ❤️
One of the best Halloween costumes I've ever seen was a guy dressed as the car with a Barbie Isadora Duncan dragging along behind him.
