Damn. Om was one of my first bosses in tech journalism, and a kind and generous man. Much love to friends and family.
Ach — I am (was?) a big fan of Om, checking his blog and reading it on a daily basis. My interactions with him were quite limited; earlier this year I emailed him about a typo is a blog and his response was very cordial. He will be sorely missed. (And why is it that the good ones always seem to go before their time?)
There are just a handful of tech/tech culture personalities I have permanently bookmarked. This fine site, Daring Fireball, Asymco, a few others. Om's was a big one. He'll be sorely missed.
I was gutted by this. I think it was June 8 when he posted that he was going to take some time off from posting, he wouldn’t be answering emails right away and he was off to read some novels. Seemed like such a normal thing to do. And then…
I didn’t know Om. I was a follower. But his passing left me with no leader. The world’s light has dimmed.
