Saw a nice comment recently that I'll butcher here but, even at the end, Leo Messi is just getting started. The World Cup, for all its undeniable, off-the-field abominations, has been a delight on the pitch, and Messi's hat trick start is a big part of that narrative.
The opening part of this clip reminds me a bit of Zidane — A 21th Century Portrait, a 2006 documentary that follows Zinedine Zidane around the pitch for an entire match. The best players: always looking, looking, looking.
I'm endlessly fascinated by the popular study of genius. There is a thread, that I'll admit I can't always grasp, the runs through the minds of those that truly excel in their given vocation. It shows through in this segment but also in docs like Comedian (about Jerry Seinfeld creating his act), Jiro Dreams of Sushi, Golden by Marcus Thompson (about Steph Curry), Steve Jobs biography, etc. The true experts in their craft just see and perceive things differently.
It’s like he’s playing chess not football, I’ve never truly appreciated that before!
