Have you read Your Name Here? You should read Your Name Here. It's the new(ish) book by Helen DeWitt that includes, as a conceit, the idea that someone should publish a novel that does for Arabic what Tolkien did for Elvish. The book includes interludes that are meant as tutorials for reading Arabic, with the various letter variations in colored font. Also it's a fun book.

Is The Last Samurai a good introduction to her work?
One data point: I read 3/4s of The Last Samurai and could not get into it, an experience I've never had with a book. It felt as though it was going to hook me at any moment and just never did.
