The official trailer for Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey was just released. Really looking forward to this.

I suppose I'm glad people are: it will help cinema not die, which is a good thing. But, really, I do not need to see Very Important Helmet Men. I will though.

Really can't doubt Nolan at this point. Even his "misses" like Tenet are a visual/mindbending wonder (I honestly gave it the old college try and just never understood it 100% - but that could just be me!).

That said, anyone else notice how some of the dialogue is quite "modern?" One example: "dad" is used when my (snobby?) ears were expecting "father." There were a few others.

Following was great. Memento was great. But the bigger Nolan's budget, the more bloated and pretentious is the resulting movie. Yes, visually interesting and mind-bending, but so what. His characters are one-dimensional duds, and their dialogue anticipated AI slop by years.

Interstellar was actually offensive to me. The cliches upon cliches upon cliches. The stilted and childish dialogue. The absolutely moronic theme (Love conquers all! Even physics!) After deciding that suing to get back three hours of my life back was impractical, I swore: no more Nolan.

I saw the trailers for Tenet, and was confirmed in my decision.

And then Oppenheimer. The man, and the story, are so fascinating, that I wavered, and watched the movie. What a mistake. Barbie was the far superior movie that summer.

So no, I won't be fooled again.

Yeah, I'm not looking forward to a summer of people being impressed by a director who is very accomplished at making movies that look way more impressive than they are under that impressive surface. I mean, I'm happy for them, but I'm going to be quietly very annoyed at how annoyed I am.

Love posting about a new movie I'm looking forward to by one of my favorite directors and everyone shitting on it on my own site!
