Peak Cherry Blossoms

I got the chance to go to the Brooklyn Botanic Garden with friends recently and it was magical, otherworldly, lovely. I think we hit peak blossom down to the second. It was cold and gray and windy, which kept the crowds down, provided the perfect photographic contrast, and made for an enchanting petal-fall.

So beautiful--I'm so lucky that the two cities I've lived in as a post-college adult (D.C. and Seattle) are known for gorgeous cherry blossoms. It never gets old; I call it "petal confetti" season.

imho Brooklyn Botanic Garden has done something really rare in recent years. They’ve done a ton of capital improvements, redone the landscapes in large swaths, and added a ton of plantings and viewables (learning exhibits etc). And none of it feels like packaged Disney nor like that elevated instagram bougie cool that one sees in modern museums. They really just nailed the whole damn thing and it’s all built on these ancient bones of huge trees and perfected cherries like you saw. A gem, somehow restrained and overwhelming at the same time.
