They’re doing a new Pride and Prejudice adaptation. From the comments on the trailer: “this looks like a temu version of the 2005” and “The Darcy is not Darcying”.

I'm suspicious of how "faithful" an adaptation it is when the protagonists are wandering around in drizzle in the early 19th century with no hats on.
And sitting on roofs.
Not enough to judge here. I like Dolly Alderton though.
The comments are savage! Also, astute - this does look like an adaptation of the 2005 film and not, ya know, the book.
Right? Almost every shot can be mapped to that one Did they not realize adamant fans have the prior versions almost memorized? (Her peeking through the door like that is such a silly thing to replicate when it was so specific and unique to the Wright version)
I’ve seen Slow Horses, so I know this Darcy can roll his eyes at Lady Catherine with the best of them.
I hope it’s better than it seems, but who knows. Some of the casting looks fantastic, particularly Olivia Colman as Mrs Bennet and Jamie Demetriou as Mr Collins.
Casting Demetriou as one of cinema’s silliest clergymen doesn’t seem fair. 😂
Seems like just a misguided attempt to build anticipation with a minimalist trailer. But I will say this: if somebody told me they were adapting P&P, given the excellent adaptations already out there, I'd ask them why.
Conversely, why not? There was a big one in 1995 and then a big one in 2005. Now we are more than 20 years later. Every generation deserves a P&P of its own.
Mainly, though, Dolly Alderton (who wrote this adaptation, has several books and a great podcast called Sentimental Garbage) has a point of view. She takes issue with the handsome and romantic Darcys and says he's a total jerk who invented negging. https://www.theguardian.com/books/2018/oct/07/mr-darcys-reputation-as-romantic-hero-trashed-at-cheltenham-literature-festival
(Timely: "The writers were taking part in an entertaining session asking the question Heathcliff versus Darcy: Who is the Bigger Shit?")
River Cartwright as Darcy? 🤔
