“Coyote time” is a trick video game designers use to be more forgiving about players jumping — the jump button still works after running off the end of the platform. It’s named after Wile E. Coyote’s ability to run in midair.

I mean, now that I think about it, that makes sense that it could also make things easier. But the games I've seen it in have used it where it's required; i.e., you can't hit the platform you're aiming for if you jump while still actually on the prior platform.
