So many of our small magazines have been shuttering in recent years.
Small donors brought The Believer back. Maybe we can do the same here. But it's hard not to be disheartened by the cultural headwinds with which we're in seeming continual battle.
As a long-time Lapham's Quarterly reader (I have all but a couple issues), this is "both tragic and predictable." It's tough to make a business out of it, but I love the format: centuries of curated wisdom and great writing on a single, well-defined topic. They're the best kind of reference books.
