Sparkle seems to boil down to two assumptions:
* The only thing preventing graphic designers from all becoming great UI designers is the right software, and
* Windows users are so provincial that they won't mind using a "Flash killer" with no non-Windows playback environment, and for which broad penetration even in Windows will take years.
From a company that didn't have 38 billion dollars in the bank, software based on these premises wouldn't rise to the level of a punchline. Even coming from Microsoft, I have a hard time seeing the basis for excitement, or investment.
