Wow - that is me, right there. The only "everyone's watching it" TV show I've seen in the past 20 years is The Good Place, and I watched it 5 years after it aired. I thought it was just that I couldn't binge-watch, but maybe there's more going on under the surface 😄

Pathological Demand Avoidance for me. Although I guess it's been retermed as Persistent Drive for Autonomy.

Either way, don't tell me what to do because I can guarantee I'll never do it.

I was just teaching the diffusion of innovations curve last week! It’s one of my favorite things in communication theory. The thing my students always get tripped up on is how these decisions aren’t always unilateral (by personality, etc) — The folks who are early adopters of AI aren’t the same ones who are early adopters of cutting edge fashion etc, but the same pattern emerges across sectors over and over again and who those resistant folks (who Rogers would call laggards) changes too

I prefer to think of it as allowing media to age, cure, mature, develop a rich patina. Or spoil. Time as a filter saves me energy.

I think I am an early adopter, or a late adopter. Breaking Bad? Lost? Watched both pilots live when they aired, which honestly was a terrible way to watch! But Severance? That's one the internet loves but that I may never get to. (It doesn't help that it seems to have years between each season.)
