I live in Georgia and this feels like every Waffle House I've ever been in. (seriously - at this point my toddler is more comfortable with our local Waffle House fry cooks than she is with some of her grandparents)
My grandfather, Ronnie, is 96. He's lived in the same town all his life, lives alone now, drinks and plays dominoes at his working men's club. Last New Year's Eve, as usual, he put on his jacket and tie, ready to go out. He collapsed in his hallway.
Steve, another regular, a friend, noticed he was missing from the club and went round to check on him. Steve called us from Ronnie's phone to say they were in an ambulance. He stayed in hospital a few weeks but recovered and was back on his feet again.
Years ago Ronnie told me his doctor had ordered him to stop drinking his couple of pints a night at the club with his mates, he was too old. I think he's too old because he drinks a couple of pints a night at the club with his mates.
