Meanwhile, in the Sunshine State, electricity costs seemingly have no ceiling.

"Painful joy." Kind of how I feel as American when I read stories like these today. On the one hand, I feel good knowing there's such progress and investment going on out there, so that a lot of people can benefit. But then I look at the U.S and... even if you're the most backward, selfish person in the world it is still IN YOUR BEST INTEREST to invest in these technologies—for the money you could make alone! But stupidity reigns these days, so, here we are, with stories like the Tampa Bay one shared here in the comments.

In Texas it's not uncommon for wholesale prices (not directly connected to prices paid by consumers) to drop to zero during the day due to an increasing presence of solar; it's also not uncommon for the state grid to be mostly solar during the day and/or mostly wind at night. Within the last year there's been a huge increase in battery storage capacity to cover the shoulder between the two. Although anybody can look this up on the ERCOT website, most Texas politicians pretend it isn't happening. Just a silent revolution taking place.
