A Chinese naval officer who took part in D-Day wrote an 80-page diary of his time embedded with British forces. “Lam was part of a group of more than 20 Chinese naval officers sent during World War II for training in the U.K. by Chiang Kai-shek.”

Amazing stuff—and wild that the book has gone missing again!
One of my favorite D-Day stories: at some point during the invasion the Allied forces captured a pair of Korean soldiers. Since they only spoke Korean, it took awhile before the Allied forces could find a translator and figure out what the hell they were doing there—turned out they'd been conscripted by the Japanese, captured by the Chinese and forced into their army, captured by the Russians and forced into their army, and then captured by the Germans and forced into their army.
