How to actually live like a local. “The thing is, nobody ever actually wants to ‘live like a local’ when they are traveling. Instead, they want to live like a romanticized, idealized version of a local that they have in their head…”

This rings true. I live in a place people routinely want to visit. And it's the most boring place ever to live. (No one ever believes me!) Yes, we have amazing access to nature, theoretically. There are mountains looming over the city, and we *could* ski there some afternoon in the winter...but we don't. The snow isn't great, traffic is a pain, and, we have to work? We go away to ski, mostly. Sure, we've all heard of that famous hike...no, we don't do it, because all the tourists and newbies in town are there, and there's no parking. Also mostly we're driving our kids to sports practice on the weekends. It's a beautiful city to spend 5 non-working days in, though.
