Sad update: the painting has vanished again! One hopes the authorities are hot on the trail, though. https://www.dutchnews.nl/2025/08/painting-stolen-by-nazis-and-spotted-on-website-disappears-again/

What stuck in my mind after diving a touch deeper was how the Jewish-Dutch art dealer Jacques Goudstikker (who owned the large collection that this painting was a part of) died. He was escaping the Nazis on a boat in the English Channel and “fell into the hold” and “broke his neck”! In the little amount of research I’ve done, there is no mention of suspicion that he was probably murdered, which boggles my mind a little bit.

Or maybe I’ve been watching too many mysteries.
