An incomplete list of things Jane Austen disliked, including “people who pretend to like music too much” and “practical marriages”. “Anything is to be preferred or endured rather than marrying without Affection.”

Love this list! It reminds me of the Pillow Book of Sei Shonagon, which is almost entirely lists of, you know, “hateful things” and “Things That Make the Heart Grow Fonder” and “Things That Make the Heart Beat Faster” and “depressing things.” Equally idiosyncratic, and for sharpness of tongue, Shonagon gives Austen a run for her money. (And she’s writing ~800 years earlier.)
