This is the exact experience and feelings I had during my 2017 citizenship ceremony. The only difference was that the woman from India was crying because she'd had to renounce her indian citizenship. I cannot imagine having to do that: it would sever some fundamental attachment and history.
Remind POTUS: "Q12. What is the “rule of law”?
A: Everyone must follow the law.
Leaders must obey the law.
Government must obey the law.
No one is above the law."
i became a Canadian citizen at the age of 8. My mother cried is all I remember.
I've been studying my family's history for quite a while, and the citizenship documents have come to represent those "one door opens as another closes" experiences that people reflect back on as momentous.
My wife and I will be eligible in a year and 12 days. Yes, I'm counting down. And yes, I know we can submit our applications three months prior. Can't wait.
We did this exact same thing in 2018 (for my spouse). I still have the photos of families I offered to take and text pictures to, and definitely cried at the roll call of nations. This is such a lovely reminder
