Wilmer Chavarria, a US citizen from VT, was detained for many hours by US immigration, who suggested his job as a school district superintendent was fake. Chavarria said the ordeal was “nothing short of surreal and the definition of psychological terror”.

This is also the person who earlier this year had already suffered a loss due to current policies. He and his husband had purchased a larger home to accommodate his brother’s family, but this spring the family chose to return to Nicaragua rather than deal with the possibility of deportation. The school district held a graduation ceremony for the two girls.
