Turn Iron Man up to 11 today. RIP
Recently got back into collecting vinyl records. A very expected male thing to do these days, but nevertheless it’s led to a number of great metal, grunge and classic rock purchases over the past couple months. But I hadn’t pulled the trigger on any Ozzy. This morning I randomly bought Blizzard of Ozz online from an indie record shop in NY. Then of course I saw the news in the early afternoon. It was one of the more bittersweet serendipitous moments I’ve had in recent memory. I’ll be sure to turn it up to 11 when it arrives later this week.
I'm not sure these numbers are corrected for inflation. Live Aid raised about £50 million on the day I think, which is something like £150 million today ($202 million), but it also raised money afterwards: people quote £150 million as the total, but that is likely in 1985 pounds so perhaps about £450 million in 2025 pounds ($608 million).
Still, an impressive achievement. Metal is ... metal.
