I’m a journalist and I’m changing the way I read news. This is how. “I’ll read news, not other people’s reactions to news.”

I don't know how one can read this woman's description of her phone and social media habits and think to themselves "yes, this is something that teenagers should be carrying around in their pockets all day." This is an addictive drug, and this woman is an addict. I can definitely relate -- this is a slightly worse version of my habits ca. 2017. My solution was to turn my iPhone into a dumb phone. (I used unpluq; I hear brick is also good.) I wish her -- and all of us -- the best. Spend the next four years talking to your kids and hanging out with your friends. Doomscrolling is not going to save democracy.
