I’ve discovered a new word that describes my general approach to life: coddiwomple: to travel purposefully toward an as-yet-unknown destination. See also I’ve Never Had a Goal.

I never set goals either! I just kind of push forward in ways that feel exciting or make sense to me and then see what happens next. I never knew how to create a 5-year or 10-year plan, because I knew so much could — and probably would — change during that time period. Tbf I think it's easier to be loose and flexible like this when a) you're pretty self-motivated already and b) you work for yourself or on a very small team, vs a big company where you may need to have more incentive structures and clear definitions of success. so interesting to think about!

Amen, Joanna. I am so much like this myself and you put it perfectly - a 5 or 10 year plan feels confining and limiting. Life become much larger and enjoyable when you open yourself to all the possibilities.

A good artist friend of mine produced this lovely Coddiwomple print
