From a recent Pew Research report: “A majority of Americans say they would tip 15% or less for an average meal at a sit-down restaurant.” 2% say they tip nothing. Quality of service is a major factor in most Americans’ tipping practices.

I will always tip at least 20% at a sit down restaurant because I feel for how grueling the service industry is (and how abysmal a lot of our minimum wages are.) But tipping options have become incredibly invasive with these new pseudo self-service payment options at places. I wonder if the software we see here in the US that asks you to tip before completing check-out is showing up at all in non-US countries?
